Mitte Home x Eike König: Limited EditionWater
Who is Eike König?
A “father, designer, lover, citizen, artist.” And the person behind Mitte’s first artistic collaboration.
Born in Hanau in 1968, Eike founded the Berlin visual communications studio HORT in 1994. He was named the Visual Leader of the year in 2011 by the Lead Academy. He also teaches illustration and graphic design to the next generation of graphic artists at the Hochschule für Gestaltung in Offenbach am Main.
Provocative and evocative, Eike’s artistic body of work cusps on the playful, but as a commentary on the outstanding issues of our day is likewise intended to awaken consciousness. It demands you question and theorize, and has achieved cult-like renown, decorating magazine pages, museum collections, and private homes.
We visited Eike at his studio in the Bergmannkiez for a chat about buzzwords, life in Berlin, and naturally, a glass of Mitte water.
Mitte Home x Eike König
We wanted to work with Eike because we love his aptitude for addressing subversive sociopolitical topics such as community, responsibility, and the environment.
“Is water political? Oh my gosh, that’s a big question. We are water and water is a resource that is ending at one point. It’s going to be the gold of the near future, when water is not available anymore, for everyone. That makes it very political. That’s the source of my message.”
Eike König has collaborated with Mitte to produce a limited edition water bottle. Emblazoned with “Automated Win-Win Return on Investment” by Eike, the water bottle has been produced for use with the Mitte Home.
What’s the meaning behind this message? “It’s part of a larger group of work focusing on the language of consultants, especially in the new economy. These are buzzwords, used across start-ups but also larger, established companies, the kind of language they are using to sell something.”
It’s a linguistic tendency we undoubtedly recognize as part of our world, but as much of Eike’s work, it can be interpreted on many levels.
“The message is also a perfect description of the bottle I am holding and not just the bottle, but the machine, the product.”
How do we see it?
“Automated” could refer to both the delivery of purified, mineralized, still or sparkling water, at the touch of a button, as well as our Smart Refills feature, which ensures you never run out of Mitte water.
The fact that Mitte Home is the only device on the market that purifies, mineralizes, and carbonates water is a clear “Win-Win.”
As for the “Return on Investment,” this leans into the obsolescence of plastic bottled water, saving both money expended on its repeated purchase and the planet.
Eike König on Mitte Home
Ahead of the collab, we sent Eike a Mitte Home to supply him with a source of inspiration––and hydration. What did he think?
“Well, perfect, I mean, it’s there. I need fresh water, sparkling water, I can make it. It’s automated, it’s perfect. I drink it whenever I want. 2 pm, in the morning, in the evening, in the afternoon, it’s there. Fresh.”
And how does Eike take his water?
“I love it sparkling and ice cold.”

We are delighted to announce our partnership with Water.org. When Mitte was founded in 2016, our aim was to provide healthy hydration to every body.
